Biomedical Engineering & Instrumentation concerns the application of engineering principles and design concepts to medicine and biology for healthcare purposes (e.g. diagnostic, medical instrumentation, therapeutic). Due to the multidisciplinary culture of Polytech, teaching in this field seeks to close the gap between engineering and medicine: it combines the design and problem solving skills of engineering with medical and biological sciences to advance healthcare treatment, including diagnosis, monitoring, and therapy as well as to the elaboration of information systems intended for healthcare establishments and for healthcare professionals.

Skills and employment opportunity

Careers opportunities for the Polytech alumni issued from biomedical engineering field cover the development, maintenance and distribution of medical equipment, as well as the training of the users. Much of the work in biomedical engineering spans a broad array of subfields: medical devices, medical imaging, clinical engineering, regulatory issues, training, certification and management of biomedical department in healthcare establishments.
