Sustainable development

DDRS (Sustainable Development and Social Responsibility) is an integral part of the DNA of Polytech Nancy with, since 2001, a dedicated course in the core curriculum of the engineering cycle. The DDRS approach at Polytech Nancy continues to develop with:

  • an end-of-studies course on “Industry and the Environment” within the EMME specialization (Energy, Mechanics, Materials and Environment);
  • specific courses: ethics and responsibility of the engineer, responsible management of innovation, climate fresco, etc.
  • the realization by students of projects involving the life of the school, global responsibility, or participation in the Cordées de la Réussite scheme (Roped together for success);
  • all actions concerning equal opportunities, gender equality and disability;
  • the Sustainable Development Office (BDD) managed by the students;
  • a DDRS working group (Sustainable Development and Social Responsibility) led by a coordinating teacher;
  • the completion of the PolyTest by some of the 3rd year students;
  • training in carbon footprinting for staff members;
  • the signing of the DDRS charter of the Polytech group.

The international dimension

  • All Polytech Nancy students must spend at least one semester abroad (study or internship) with more than 65 prestigious partner universities on the following programs:
  • Erasmus and Campus Europae (Europe and enlarged Europe).
  • BCI (Quebec), ARFITEC (Argentina) and BRAFITEC (Brazil).
  • Georgia Tech (USA), the University of Quebec at Chicoutimi (Canada) and the National School of Engineering in Monastir (Tunisia) for double degrees.
  • Washington State University (USA) for a research internship or 6 months of study.

They are accompanied in their administrative procedures by the school’s International Relations Department.

Research

Polytech Nancy’s research professors work in 11 internationally recognized laboratories. Engineering students are trained in research as early as the PeiP preparatory cycle with a bibliographic research (nanothesis), then in the engineering cycle with the Research and Innovation Culture module and the Research Valorization day.

At the end of the engineering cycle, students can pursue a double Master’s degree and a PhD in the School’s laboratories.

A large place is given to the testimonies of the different people involved in research: doctoral students, research professors and R&D engineers from the private sector.

Student life

Student life is organized by two associations:

  • the Students’ Circle (or BDE) which facilitates the life of engineering students with: 30 sports, cultural and artistic clubs, a bar-cafeteria, the organization and involvement in numerous events in Nancy and the region (Gala, sports tournaments, concerts, trips, etc.);
  • the accredited Junior Enterprise, Polytech Services Nancy, a service provider that offers paid projects to students of the School in connection with the themes taught.

The Polytech Nancy campus is located at the entrance to Nancy-Sud, 20 minutes from downtown Nancy (a university town with 52,000 students), 1.5 hours from Paris by TGV train and 100 km from the Vosges mountains. It has a gymnasium, a weight room, a music room, wooded areas and parking lots.
